Milaan Foundation envisions an inclusive and equal world where every girl has the knowledge, skills and social environment to pursue her dreams and explore her full potential. Over the last 12 years, Milaan has worked with more than 35,000 children and young people and advocated for safer and more inclusive spaces for them at various state and national platforms. The Milaan School specifically serves low income and lower cast families in a rural community in Uttar Pradesh, India.

    When asked what she aspires to be, Ram Lali after thinking for a while says she wants to learn tailoring. Her aspiration is not to be a doctor or an engineer or a teacher. Her dream is very simple - to start a tailoring shop of her own. If she learns tailoring she says other people will come to her for tailoring needs, thus helping her earn money to support her family. Ram Lali is a very shy and soft spoken girl. Her father digs canals and her mother is a home maker. She is the second eldest amongst the four children. Her sister, who is the eldest, is married and her other siblings attend a Government run school. Having discontinued her education due to financial reasons, Ram Lali now regularly attends here classes. She has a love for badminton and Sanskrit. She enjoys coming to school as she gets to learn new things and can meet her friends. With a very simple dream to achieve, no one really knows what the future holds for Ram Lali. But she is happy, happy that her parents registered her for the Swabhiman program - an opportunity for her to continue her education.

Because she had big responsibilities of her family. Now Reena's sister is married. Reena is continuing her studies. She is very dedicated for her studies. Reena is fourth one in her five siblings. Reena is a good singer. She likes to sing devotional songs. She wants to grow her career in singing field.

    Simple and nice girl Suman is studying in class 6 at SLRC. Suman is eldest one in her 3 siblings. Being eldest one she has all responsibilities of her family. She likes to come to school but due to family responsibilities her attendance is bit low in the class. She dropped her studies after class 5 due to financial reasons. When she heard about Swabhiman program she admitted herself under this program without any late. Now she is happy to be a part of Swabhiman program. She likes to cook food and play with her friends. She wants to learn stitching. Her aspiration is to become a home science teacher.

    Laxmi Devi is a serious girl. She likes to do her work with silence. Her hobby is to make rangoli. She participated in rangoli competition at SLRC and her team won second prize. She is an average in her studies. She likes to play kho-kho. She aims to become a craft teacher. She opted computer for vocational training. They are six members in her family. Her father is a farmer and mother is a home maker. Her father's income is too low so he can't afford laxmi and her younger sister's school fees.
